Why Help?

The Rabbit Warren is more than a private home, as many of you have reason to know. The Rabbit Warren has become a central home and meeting place for many communities: pagan, poly, queer, and various offshoots of those. You come here, not merely as occasional guests, but as welcome friends, family, community, tribe.

We work hard to create in our home a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome. We want this to be a place where you can ask "May I?" and we say, "Yes!" But it is not only magic that makes the Rabbit Warren the place you love to be: it is work and yes, money.

Friends, it costs to run this household as a community center. We pay water bills for the use of shower, toilets, washing machine, dishwasher, and hot tub; we pay utilities for heating, cooling, lights, appliances. We must buy food, cleaning products, incidentals (you've never seen so much toilet paper be used in so short a time!); we pay for gas and maintenance on the cars that take people to and from BART, and sometimes their homes or other gatherings. Everywhere you look, there are the hidden--and obvious--costs that make this the household you can depend on.

We need your support, in every way, to maintain the Rabbit Warren as Community Central. So, yes: bring a bag of groceries, a box full of cleaning supplies, an item from the "Resources Needed" list; put gas in the car's tank; don't forget those contributions to the cauldron at gatherings (at a previous Stone Soup, with at least 20 participants, found only $12 in the pot at the end of the evening! Surely more than that should have made it's way to the support of such a well-loved event.). You can give us cash to help pay expenses, or bring items that need replenishing. You can contribute to our Legal Defense Fund.

You can do work in or on the house. Look around and see what's needed; or ask, if you're not certain. We always have more work to be done around Rabbit Warren than can be completed by three people.

In an effort to make this more possible, we have created a web page with a list of resources both labor and material that we need help with. Please take the time to look over this and see if there is anything you can help with.

We hope never to be in the position of having to choose between keeping our family afloat and providing a space for our growing, amazing community to meet and explore. Help us make that possible by pitching in so that our own resources don't become too depleted. (We may have a wonderful house, but really, we're not rich--though we're flattered when you think our space is luxurious enough that you think we are!)

Love,
Dawn, Troy & Lon
