Why Pagan Spiritual Counseling?

    While (especially in the Bay Area) many psychotherapists and other counselors are open to alternative spiritualities and lifestyles, not all are.  Of those that are, relatively few are themselves Pagan.  Because of this, many Pagans are reluctant to seek counseling or therapy, knowing that some professionals might consider their religious beliefs to be part of the problem.  Those that do seek counseling often find themselves having to do some amount of education, teaching their therapists and counselors about their practices.

    As a Pagan and a psychologist, I offer a practice that is not only aware of modern Pagan beliefs, but which includes them in the course of counseling.  I am prepared include divination, devotion, and ritual among the more traditional counseling techniques.

Lon Sarver has been practicing various kinds of crisis counseling and psychotherapy since 1996.  He has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Iowa (1997) and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University (2001).  He was introduced to Wicca in 1989, and has been a practicing Pagan and Magician ever since.  He works and reads tarot at Ancient Ways, in Oakland, and provides counseling from his home in Hayward.
