As the Sun Rises

The on-going letter-journal of

Some history for those interested: ASR began when I was a teenager. As a lonely geek girl in Oklahoma, I developed quite a number of pen pals. Because I didn't want to write over and over again the same "what have I been up to" in letters, I began writing a kind of update to send along with a personal note. When I moved to California in 1984, a began writing the more personal form which I called "As the Sun Rises: The Science Fiction Soap Opera, Featuring Dawn Atkins." Again, when I moved to Iowa in 1994, I started it up again. Only this time, email made it a lot easier to send to friends and family. Some of you have been on the list at least that long. Others are new friends who I thought might be interested. Over the years it crossed over from a chatty letter into more of a journal. This has been prompted in part by friends who have written queries such as "Dawn you said what you are up to but not how you are doing…" I have tried to use them as a way of letting people know where I am in my life in many ways. If there is something I mention in them that you don't understand or want more information about, just ask.
